It was a quiet week this week, so not much movement in the rates. The big number was Thursday’s June housing starts – a much bigger number than expected at 8.2%. Also, building permits were up 7.3%, which should have made rates go up more, but they did only slightly.

On Friday the weekly jobs number surprisingly fell 15,000 in one week. Typically this number is 4-6,000, meaning higher unemployment. This number has been dropping but that’s a big one-week drop. This should have swayed the markets, but it did by only a smidge.
